Dear Cosmos,
Time flies when you are having fun. Marilyn and I have been married 11 years
and have traveled to over a dozen countries. I will be 80 in two weeks and
I
still work, part time for the navy, in the same job I have had for the last
20 years and see no reason to quit. I continue with my work at The Church
of the Ascension, keeping the computers running and taking on any projects
that need to be done. I have to keep up with Marilyn who runs Ascension's
food pantry, which is open three days a week, as well as bring the resident
gardener for the church.
My speaker today will be Rev Samantha Vincent-Alexander, the assistant
rector at The Church of the Ascension on Talbot Hall Road in Norfolk.
Samantha will speak on the "Pittsburgh Project" and will have some
pictures
to show. This is a year round ecumenical effort to assist owners who are
elderly in the repair and upkeep of their homes. Several Episcopal youth
from Ascension spent a week earlier this summer, joined by youth from around
the country, scraping and painting and wound up having a great time, making
a lot of new friends and to a person are ready to go back and do it again.
